Did you know that more than 500 species of birds migrate through Riviera, Texas? According to Steve Smith, Associate Professor at A & M Kingsville, Riviera has one of the largest migrating areas in the entire United States. The rarest birds that have ever been spotted in this area are the Masked Ducks and the Tropical Parula. This area attracts many species of birds because of the ponds, swamps, and great places for them to rest. Some of the birds that migrate through here come from as far North as the Arctic and travel as far South as South America. One type of endangered species that migrates through this area is the Peregrine Falcon. There are several great spots to view hundreds of species migrating in this area. Some of those spots are right in town off of Highway 77, intersection of Farm to Market Road 771 and Farm Road 2510 and also at Leo Kaufer Park off of Farm Road 628.
