Malin Ranch

There are many ranchers in Riviera, Texas. One of those ranchers is Mr. Malin. Mr. Malin raises beef cattle, Hereford, Brangus, Santa Gertrudis, and Beef Master. He sells them when they are still 8 months old. Some go to the pasture as calves, some go to the feed lot for processing into hamburger meat. Most of the cattle is sold at live stock auctions in Alice, Texas. Ranch hands move the cattle to where they need to go by loading them in the trailers. Ranchers often help each other out. Calves are usually sold from about $450.00. A cow and her calf are considered a pair and are sold for about $800.00. Supply and demand determines the price of the cattle. An element that ranchers have to deal with is the lack of rain. Each cow needs about 3 acres of land to feed on. Cattle eat hay, and molasses mix for nutrition. Mr. Malin's cattle ranch is about 1,100 acres. This is just one of the many fine cattle ranches through out the Riviera area.
