The most historical site in Riviera is the Museum. The museum curator is Mrs. Idella Strubhart and she does this on a volunteer basis. The museum is opened every Thursday. People from around the United States and Europe have visited the Museum.
Through the years this building has served a variety of purposes. Originally it was built in 1910 as a bank. At one time it served as a home and post office and eventually it opened as a museum in 1983. The Riviera Beautification Association owns the Riviera Museum. Museums are very important part of every community because it preserves the history of that community for future generations.
While touring the museum you will be delighted by the wonderful displays. The oldest item on display is a 200-year-old cheese cutter. Other items on display include tools, barbed wire from area ranchers and pictures of many early settlers of the Riviera community.
While at the museum dont forget to pick up a copy of Mrs. Strubharts book about the history of Riviera, A Small Town In Gods Country, Riviera, Texas.
